BREAKING NEWS: Enyeama Fails To Win BBC African Footballer Of The Year Award, Yacine Brahimi Wins

Algeria and Porto forward, Yacine Brahimi, has emerged as the 2014 BBC African Footballer of the Year award winner, beating Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama to second place.

Brahimi shrugged off competition from likes of Ivorian star and former holder Yaya Toure, Gervinho Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Enyeama to become the first ever Algerian player to be so honoured in the continent.

Many had thought that Enyeama who has been a phenomenal figure in- between the sticks for the Super Eagles and was key to Nigeria making it to the round of 16 of the last world cup staged in Brazil will nick the top prize.

If he had won, Enyeama would have been the second Nigeria after Jay jay Okocha to win the BBC award.

Many will now hope to see Enyeama scoop the ultimate which is the CAF African footballer of the year award which he is amongst the final five shortlist for the award.

Drop Your Prediction For Arsenal vs Manchester United Clash Today

Today two former heavyweights of the Premier League will square up in a match which could decide the games most important trophy – 4th place.

While the previous paragraph was meant in jest, sadly it is probably quite close to the truth. The bottom line is we are sitting in 6th and 7th respectively in the Premier League table, and both teams have been performing well below par this season.

So how will this clash go?

With both teams having shaky defences, I can either see it being a goal fest or a dull game where both teams focus too much on defending.

Both teams have a lot of attacking talent on show however so even though both teams will look to sure up the defence I can still see a goal or two being scored.

My final prediction?

I’m going for a 1-1 draw.

Once one team score they will sit deep and try and defend the slender lead, but eventually the other team will get through and then both sides will settle for a moral-boosting draw. Neither team will want to lose, and a 1-1 draw is a good compromise.

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi demonstrated relative indifference regarding the extension of his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Super Eagles players Ahmed Musa who plays for CSKA Moscow and Vincent Enyeama of Lille, France, Yaya Toure of Manchester City/Ivory Coast, Asamoah Gyang of Ghana and Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo have been nominated for the 2014 CAF African Player of the Year, while Ejike Uzoenyi of Rangers International, Enugu, is the only Nigerian shortlisted in the 20-man list of Africa-based Player of the Year.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the nominees in Cairo on November 6th. The Awards Gala will take place on 8 January 2015 in Lagos. Hope Ahmed Musa wins.

Patriotism: Super Falcon Player Courtney Dike Rejects World Cup N1.2m Bonus

Super Falconet player, Courtney Dike has turned down the N1.2m ($7,000) bonus given to each player as bonus for playing in the 2014 FIFA U20 Women World Cup.

Courtney who is the younger sister of Super Eagles player, Bright Dike said she valued playing for Nigeria, more than the monetary reward. Head of competition, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Dr. Sanusi Mohammed, made the revelation, saying that the federation was amazed at her refusal.

Sanusi told www.footballlive.ng that efforts to reach her mother could not even change Courtney's mind as her mother instead supported her daughter's stand not to collect the money. The Federation member said:

"Courtney Dike is based in America. When she was paid the outstanding 10 days worth of allowances in the tune of seven thousand dollars, she turned it down. When we called her mother to confirm the delivery of the allowances, she declined it and insisted the opportunity to serve Nigeria was all the reward the family needed. Besides she said she was to young to earn that much.”

In a related development, The head of Nigeria Women League board, Dilichukwu Onyedinma has admonished Nigerian footballers to emulate the exemplary behavior of Courtney Dike , Falconets player who refused to collect the match bonus and other financial benefits due to her as a member of silver winning squad at the FIFA Under 20 Women World Cup.

In a chat with the same www.footballlive.ng Onyedinma stressed further that she deserves special commendation for her patriotism.

” It’s an exemplary behavior from a female footballer. With such discipline from Courtney Dike and the backing of her parents, this should beapplauded and perhaps celebrate her.”

” She’s a star and a patriotic Nigerian who did not put money above service. The Minister is aware and we’ll push this patriotic act before the Football Federation so it can inspire many,” the administrator said.
