I Feel Sorry For Goodluck Jonathan – Etcetera Writes

I think I am the most criticised President in the whole world, but I want to tell this audience that before I leave, I will be the most praised President,” said President Goodluck Jonathan at the opening of the 52nd Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Hey guys, I guess you know that pointing fingers is not my style, hahaha, just as I know that it will be difficult to find a single Nigerian who hasn’t pointed fingers at President Goodluck Jonathan since he became President. But really, can so many fingers be pointed at a single individual all at the same time? Some people have gone to the extent of saying that since Jonathan took office, everything has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Others have held him responsible for everything that has gone wrong in the country, from the tear in their pants to the economy. Trust me: Nigerians are beginning to agree that when it comes to assigning blame, look to Jonathan first. There are some hardliners who don’t care if Jonathan wasn’t President during the civil war. He must have been thinking about it, and that’s good enough reason for them. They even say that if he hadn’t been sticking his nose into government, the civil war wouldn’t have happened. Funny, Nigerians have found the perfect target for dealing with their bad days. Late to work? Blame Jonathan! Did the soup in the fridge melt when you weren’t looking? It’s Goodluck Jonathan. Can’t find your smelling socks? Jonathan! Your baby pees on the chair, again? Jonathan. The possibilities are endless! Hey, are we not just being unfair to Goodluck Jonathan? We blame him for all and everything. Even for things that are not his fault. Let me ask you something sir or madam, if Jonathan is to blame for everything wrong in Nigeria today, what becomes of the previous presidents under whose regimes most of these problems started?

On Tuesday evening on my way back from NTA, I stopped at the Bar Beach to buy suya. I was a little bit early because I met the aboki lighting his charcoal. As I waited, I saw two weird looking rastas looking like archangels Michael and Gabriel in their white Cele garments walk down to just about five yards from the water, raised their holy robes in unison like atilogwu dancers trying to master a new dance routine and bent down and began to defecate. Couples of minutes later, I heard them walking back complaining of how dirty and smelly the beach had become from what it used to be. As they passed by me, the taller one said “omo naija, presido no dey try at all. See as this place don yamayama finish, dem no dey see as those oyinbo beach be for inside film wey we dey watch?” At that point, I couldn’t hold back my anger. I just had to say something: “Shebi na una just shit finish for that place so? And una get mouth dey blame the president. Una see him shit for there?”

We are having a distant relationship with the truth in this country. We have developed that rare ability to be hypocritical and not so much as give a damn whether we are equally guilty of the things we are blaming on others. In truth, Goodluck Jonathan should roll up his sleeves, spit on his palms and get to work on a lot of things. We keep saying that corruption escalated under his regime but why do we keep failing to associate it with the fact that these corrupt individuals are Nigerians? I listened to some custom officers saying that If it wasn’t for Goodluck Jonathan’s backward policies, everything at the Nigerian borders would be perfect. Yes, let us keep dumping everything on Goodluck Jonathan. Even our own responsibilities as citizens. He’s the reason our custom and police officers are more interested in collecting bribes than fighting crime and checking for contraband goods coming into the country. It is also Jonathan’s fault that the security operatives at the Lagos airport have all turned beggars. Should the president also take the rap for the Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria not being able to see that the nation is littered with fake products? Maybe Goodluck Jonathan should be with him daily and point him towards fake products and manufacturers. The fight to save this country does not begin or stop at Janathan’s table. It must be an all Nigerian battle. Let the pastors stop praying for corrupt politicians and tell them to their faces to stop stealing public funds. If all drivers have their complete vehicle papers and obey traffic laws, there will be no need to give out money to the police and we will be on our way to a better society.

Ask yourself where your governor got the billions he spends on frivolities? People in the rural areas of Akwa Ibom state are living in thatched houses and we are building another stadium? Have you tried asking what the Abia State Government did with the state’s allocation for eight years? Do you think President Jonathan will be allowed a minute of sleep if he failed to remit monies due to the states? So why then do we pour all the blames on him? Your governor owns empty estates in Dubai and factories in South Africa when people of their states are homeless and jobless, is that Jonathan’s fault too? Where did we get the preposterous notion that President Jonathan took office and people started having trouble finding jobs? Did we have a zero unemployment rate in the country before President Jonathan? Millions of Nigerians are working their asses out and dying as contract staffs and casual workers, where is the NLC? Is it not aware of the appalling working conditions Nigerian workers are subjected to by multinationals? Of course, it is all Jonathan’s fault. Last time I checked, Jonathan was a president or a magician. Should he be doing the job of the NLC too, supervising every sector of the country at the same time? Let us be truthful to ourselves, since when have we had good roads in this country?

Were there roads in the country that Jonathan destroyed? Have we had electricity in the country before President Jonathan? We say Boko Haram started as a result of poverty and lack of education in the North, were there schools in the North that Jonathan destroyed? Trust me, the architects of Boko Haram know what they’re talking about when they say it is all Jonathan’s fault.

“The deceased kingpin, Onovo, had been terrorizing the lives of innocent citizens of Achara Layout of Uwani, One Day axis of Awkunanaw and Ikirike axis of the state and its environs.“Recovered from the gang were two English cut-to-size pump action guns, a locally-made double-barrelled pistol and some phones.“Meanwhile, full scale investigations have commenced with a view to arresting his gang members, just as the command is appealing to members of the public and hospital operators for useful and timely information on any one with suspected bullet wounds for necessary action.

NECA Has It That Over 40m Nigerian Youths Are Still Unemployed

Director-General of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Mr Olusegun Oshinowo, yesterday revealed that over 40 million Nigerian youths remained unemployed, in spite of the Federal Government’s efforts at reducing unemployment.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after inspecting facilities at Ruff’n and Tumbles Clothings in Lagos, Oshinowo said the idea of Nigerian youths seeking white collar jobs would never take them anywhere. Ruff’n Tumbles is into children’s fashion.

The company also engages in the training of youths in fashion making. According to the DG, NECA collaborated with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), to ensure that unemployment was reduced in Nigeria by training youths on dress making.

“NECA and ITF are partnering with Ruff’n Tumbles Clothing to see how we can use their company to train interested youths that have passion for fashion so that they can have a more meaningful life to themselves after the training,” he said.

“We will make the training open to the public so that the process will be fair. The training will also be free and the trainees will also be given some stipend,” he added.

Also speaking, the ITF Director-General, Dr Juliet Chukkas-Onaeko, disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan had mandated the body to create three million jobs every year.

He therefore described the partnership with NECA as a beautiful one that would help the ITF to achieve its mandate.

Chief Executive Officer of Ruff’n Tumbles Clothing, Mrs Adenike Ogunlesi said the project was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility in reducing the level of unemployment in the country.

President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerian senators to leave him alone and concentrate on other issues of national Importance.

Mr. Jonathan declared that the senators should know that there are other issues that ought to catch the lawmakers’ attention instead of threatening to sack him.

President Jonathan took this position in a statement issued by Doyin Okupe, a medical doctor who serves as senior special assistant to the president on public affairs.

The statement was however silent on whether Mr. Jonathan considers that he has, or has not, committed any impeachable offence.

RE-PURPOTED GATHERING OF IMPEACHEABLE OFFENCES BY SOME SENATORS

The Senate in the last four years has conducted its legislative functions and responded to issues that are of great national importance with commendable political sagacity.

In this same period, the senate has functioned as a stabilizing force within the polity employing much political maturity that is required to guide and protect our nascent democracy.

However, confrontation and strong disagreements are not uncommon phenomenon in Executive-Legislative relationship world-wide.

The recent purported attempt by some Senators to prepare impeachable offences against the President, as reported in some section of the Media, is seen by us in this light.

We strongly trust and believe in the leadership of the present Senate and the unwavering patriotism and commitment that have been shown by the distinguished members and we trust that ultimately it is this tendency towards true Nationalism that will prevail in the Senate.

It is our view that there are at present, serious fundamental issues of National importance such as winning the war against terrorism and stabilizing the economy in the face of dwindling oil revenue which requires the full attention, commitment and swift action of distinguished members of the Senate.

We are of the opinion that all matters political can and will be resolved politically in the overall interest of our democracy and the wellbeing of our people.

CHISOS!! Another Dangote Truck killed Someone This Week

A deadly accident happened on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway on Monday.

A truck owned by the Dangote Group, which was coming into Lagos, had a brake failure at the border between Lagos and Ogun and crashed into a billboard, causing a multiple collision involving six vehicles.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says 14 people were badly injured, while one person died.

An eyewitness said FRSC responded instantly to rescue people and clear the scene. The nearby FRSC station is less than a minute away.

Sunday Omafu, the commandant of the station said, “Proximity is not necessarily a factor.

We have units that patrol the expressway under our cover, and they have a mandate to detect emergencies and radio us here at the station.

Then we respond immediately. FRSC has stations strategically spread out on all expressways so that our men can move in during any emergency within 15 minutes. We do our job.”

The Dangote Group has a history of truck accidents.

In the last four years alone, there have been numerous deadly accidents involving Dangote trucks, all attributed to a driving or mechanical failure.

Last year, one of their trucks swerved and knocked down people passing by in Ibesa, Ogun. An furious mob burnt down the truck at once.

There was another one in Lokoja in 2012, where a Dangote truck reportedly had a brake failure and the driver slammed his vehicle into a passenger bus fatally.

Another fatal Dangote truck accident happened in 2010, among others.

The combined death toll in this four-year period is disturbing, and all this is coming from one corporation.

FRSC commander Omafu called these recurrent Dangote truck accidents “a national issue.”

He said, “We’ve tried to speak with the company about their drivers, but this is an issue that needs to be addressed at the national level.

Our experience with the corporation’s drivers show they have some degree of incompetence and little education.

It’s even a problem communicating with many of them.

But we try to talk to them about their driving.”

The FRSC is responsible for road safety on federal expressways.

Omafu said, “We have an emergency number that anyone who witnesses an emergency can call free of charge to alert us. It’s 122. “We also try to ensure that we educate bus drivers and others about road safety.

We go out four times a week to visit motor parks and educate drivers about safe driving and vehicle road worthiness.

Our efforts are quite paying off, and accidents have actually reduced on expressways these days.”

Dangote is the largest corporation in Nigeria and the largest employer of labour, next to the federal government.

Tragedy struck yesterday as a fresh graduate of the Imo State University took his last breath as students poured him water in jubilation of final year completion.

Nawa oo!! First Class Graduate Of Economics Shot Dead By Policeman While Defending Girlfriend [See Photo]

A gun-happy policeman has killed a 30-year-old first class graduate of Economics from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, according to reports.

The victim, Moses Murtala Aminu, who lived at No. 67 Ahmadu Ahidjo Street, Narayi High Cost family residence, Barnawa, Kaduna State went to a party on Sunday, where the police constable that killed him, Alex Okpe, was beating up his girlfriend outside the party venue.

When he tried to intervene, the policeman got angry and shot Aminu, who died on the spot.

The constable was also said to have shot in the air as he escaped on his motorcycle.

Officers attached to the Barnawa Police Division had since arrested him, reports say.

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Femi Adenaike confirmed the incident. According to him, Alex Okpe has been arrested and he confessed to the killing on interrogation.

Okpe however claimed that he fired the shots in ‘self-defence’.

“The suspect is in the cell and we have commenced investigation. And if he is found guilty, we will give him an in-house trial and summary dismissal so that he can face the law for homicide, ” Adenaike said.

3yr Old Boy Mistakenly Shoots Mother to Death [Read This]

A 26-year-old Tusla, OK woman was shot and killed by her 3-year- old toddler, the AJC.com reports. Tulsa police say the tragic accident occurred while the unidentified mother was changing her toddler’s diaper.

Acccording to AJC specialists who talked with the child confirmed the 3- year-old pulled the trigger.

“I just can’t imagine in today’s society that there would be a gun a loaded gun where a toddler could get it,” Bennett said.

Tulsa police said the woman’s husband is a truck driver and was out of the state when the accident happened.

Officers have not released the identity of the woman killed.

You Need To See This: Illuminati 666 Symbol On New Nigerian N100 Naira Note [SEE Photo]

On Wednesday the 12th of November 2014, the Nigerian Federal Government introduced the new design on theN100 Naira notethat will be officially issued on the 19th of December.

However, a group is calling an attention to the occultic symbol that looks like a Jewish Symbol on thenew Nigerian Naira note.

In a press statement released by the Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof Ishaq Akinlolu, the group expressed displeasure over the strange symbol on the note.

The statement reads;

“The Federal Government, on November 12, 2014 unveiled the new design for the N100 commemorative centenary banknote which will be officially issued on December 19.

However, the office of the Muslim Rights Concern has been inundated with calls for action on the Jewish symbol on the new note. Nigerian Muslims are complaining that the Arabic writing in Hausa language (the Ajami script) that read ‘Naira Dari’ (i.e. one hundred naira) on the N100 note has been removed and replaced with the Jewish symbol, the Star of David.

As a faith-based human rights organisation which believes in the dialogue option, MURIC is duty bound to articulate the demands of Nigerian Muslims, particularly on matters which have to do with imbalance in treatment of the adherents of the different religions governments (federal or state).

MURIC recalls that Arabic inscriptions which have always been on Nigerian currency since independence were unceremoniously removed in 2005 from N5, N10, N20 and N50 denominations.

They remained on N100, N200, N500 and N1,000 denominations.

Nigerian Muslims regard the latest action, namely, the supplanting of Arabic with Jewish symbol from the new N100 as a continuation of the campaign of elimination by substitution against Arabic language and, by implication, against Nigerian Muslims.

It is well known that a large section of the Nigerian population use the Arabic Ajami and removing it from the new note will deprive millions of users of the Arabic Ajami of the ability to recognise, identify and use the new currency.

Furthermore, putting the Jewish symbol on the new N100 falls short of international standard, as currencies worldwide are designed to suit each nation’s culture and history.

Where does the Jewish symbol fit in? Which Nigerian community speaks the Jewish language? The insertion of the Jewish symbol is, therefore, clannish and parochial. It is tainted with undisguised religious fanaticism.

There is nothing wrong for our president to like Israel as a nation, but it is another thing entirely to openly and brazenly promote Zionism at the highest office in this country when we are still struggling with the last vestiges of colonialism.

Nigerian Muslims are becoming increasingly suspicious and very uncomfortable with the actions and inactions of President Jonathan.

Firstly, in spite of the preponderance of Muslims in the South West, he appointed no single Muslim as minister in the whole region for almost four years. Secondly, he marginalised Muslims in the deliberations which took place in the national conference by appointing a meagre 189 Muslims as against 303 Christians.

Thirdly, Mr President saturated the security system in Aso Rock with Israeli security operatives, a nation well known for its animosity towards Muslims. The supplanting of Arabic language with Jewish symbol is the fourth among Jonathan’s anti-Muslim policies.

If once is happenstance, if twice is a coincidence and if the third time is enemy action, what do we call the fourth time? We are sick and tired of our president’s hatred for us. He openly confronts Muslims and goads us to challenge him.

“But we will not be provoked. Neither shall we be intimidated by executive maladministration. As apostles of dialogue and advocates of peaceful coexistence, as tax-payers, voters and citizens of this country, we hereby ask President Jonathan to explain the Jewish symbol on Nigeria’s money.

Can this also be partly responsible for the viciousness of the Boko Haram phenomenon?

Many Nigerians believe the symbol has nothing to do with Israel.

The APC in in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of awarding a contract of repainting the Ekiti State Governor’s Office to his ‘blood brother’ at the cost of N200m.

November 17, 1993 is one of the most notable dates in Nigerian history. That day, General Sanni Abacha seized the government and became Nigeria’s seventh military dictator.

The incident happened at a time when Nigeria was in free fall.

Ibrahim Babangida had just left government having ruled for eight years. The economy was bleeding.

So they were both furious and gutted when Babangida nullified the election and held on to power.

As the country boiled and support for Babangida faded, he set up an interim government in August and appointed Ernest Shonekan to head it, with Abacha as the vice. Then he left Aso Rock.

Some people believe he stepped aside as part of a calculation to tacitly work his way back into Aso Rock.

Anyway, people rejected the interim government, rioting continued and a federal court declared the government illegal.

The situation grew more chaotic. In the middle of this, Abiola and his supporters continued to heap pressure on the government in order to force a change in his favour.

Three months later, it happened.

That day, Abacha and his soldiers marched into Aso Rock and coerced Shonekan to resign. Then he took over the government.

Timothy says, “Many of us were very happy when Abacha took over.

We just wanted Shonekan to go away.

His government didn’t get any respect.

We didn’t vote for him. Someone just picked him and installed him there.

Nobody wanted him. In fact I think if the interim government had lasted some more time, there would been catastrophe, because Shonekan didn’t have the mandate of the people and he couldn’t control the army since he wasn’t the constitutional head of state.

So when Abacha kicked him out, I was relieved and hopeful again that we would soon have our man, MKO, in the place.”

But Abacha obviously wasn’t interested in that direction. Soon after he became head of state, he began a bloody tyranny that Nigerians who lived under his rule would never forget.

Mustapha says, “If there’s anything that Abacha would be remembered for, it is that his regime was a regime when blood flowed freely.

They imprisoned. They killed.

Abacha had people killed either because they were opposition or because he needed them for human sacrifice as his witches wanted.

You’ll just see a brand new car park, people would step out and shoot someone and drive away. That was the end. He was merciless.”

“By then, life was tortuous for the common Nigerian,” says Bose.

“That time, things were not as costly as now.

If you had N100, you could cook a potful of soup with a lot of meat and all that. But how would you get that N100? You couldn’t even get kerosene.

It got to a time, because of the hardship, people invented a stove called Abacha stove (everyone remembers it till today).

That stove, you get an empty tin and stuff it with saw dust.

Then you add a little kerosene and light it. You’re ready to cook. Such was the poverty that we suffered.”

“I remember that it was around then I lost my bank job because the bank downsized,” Deborah says.

“I was a single mother living with my two kids in Lagos.

I became so poor that I had to relocate with my children to my home town.

At least, my mother would take care of us there and we would live with her. We won’t have to pay rent.”

Nigerians endured all that for five years while Abacha continued his plot to remain in power for as long as he was alive.

Then on June 8, 1998, he died.

Deborah says, “I remember my daughter was watching the news and I was sitting outside with neighbours.

Then she came to tell us she heard in the news that Abacha was dead. You should see the joy! We danced.

we sang. We wept. We had never been that joyful in a long time. Even the Hausas in the kiosk across the street were rejoicing.

“My girl was only nine and didn’t understand what was going on.

So she asked me why everyone was so excited to hear that a man died. I told her, ‘Juliana, that man was a bad man who tormented us, and now that he’s dead, we have hope for the future again.”

Cars had to be directed to take the other side of the road.

The accident has caused serious traffic in that area. The fire service have since arrived though.
